ACTIVITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS

More than two dozen civic, cultural, social, and philanthropic  organizations for expatriates can be found at Lakeside. Two monthly English-language magazines are published in the area and distributed internationally, often using local talent. Guadalajara and Lakeside also has an English-language newspaper, published weekly.

The colorful atmosphere, combined with a great demand for artistry and an abundance of unique materials available, has inspired many first-time and experienced artists to express themselves here. As a result, artesania and galleries abound, featuring both native and foreign artists. The local “art colony” also includes many budding writers, currently successful writers, and retired writers and musicians of international fame.

Several towns in the area also have cultural centers, as well as museums. Lakeside has a tri-plex cinema, 2 theater groups, and nearby Guadalajara offers numerous theaters and a philharmonic orchestra of worldwide renown.

The area hosts 2 country clubs, a yacht club, world-class parks, spas, golf, tennis, boating, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, water parks, tour boats, and more. There are historical sites dating back to the Spanish Conquest, and even some predating the Conquest. Yesterday and today live comfortably side-by-side in this area.

For those seeking cosmopolitan culture and entertainment, a surprising amount of both can be found at Lakeside and in Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city, less than an hour away.

There are numerous fiestas and celebrations, both religious and secular, going on constantly. The expatriate community has added its own gatherings into the mix, celebrating events from home countries, and even holding an annual international 3-day Chili Cook-off.

Night life is lively, with everything from cinemas, theaters, sports bars, discos, night clubs, dinner clubs, restaurants, concerts, ballet folklorico, mariachis, and more.
